With Storm Freya bearing down, the course designers tried hard to please the weather gods, with offerings of lactic acid and muscle cramps courtesy of a deceptive ascent from the start to ‘A’, an in-your-face climb from 'B' to 'H', a stone path that had the 'long spikes vs. short spikes vs. trail shoes' debate going all morning, and an array of rabbit holes on the run-in that would not have looked out of place in Watership Down.

Radley enjoyed a fantastic turnout for the 2019 Oxfordshire Cross-Country Championships in early January which as usual were combined with the third race in the Oxon XC League series. Horspath was accommodatingly muddy, but the rain held off as the Radley tent and flag were amongst the first to go up, a good omen for the day's races. In the Boys events, purple vests dominated the podium places with a healthy cohort of participants throughout the finishing order.
