Radley AC travelled to Tooting for the first SAL senior fixture of 2017. Having been hit hard with Easter unavailability they rallied to fill as many events as possible and managed to come 2nd to a very strong Windsor Slough and Eton team.
There were many good performances on the day and one of the best was U17 Josh Brant who had 3 pbs and helped the 4 x 100m relay team to an easy win. Josh jumped 1.60m in the HJ, 6.28 in the LJ and 12.54m In the TJ for the treble. Relay team mate Matthew Johnson won the 100m in ESAA qualifying time (11.1s) despite a head wind and came 2nd in the 200m. Men’s Captain Jordan Dorrian amassed good points for the team as follows: 100m(B) 11.2 1st, HJ(A) 2nd 1.65m, LJ (A) 3rd 6.33m, 110h (B) 1st also formed part of the winning 4 x 10m relay team. Teamate Blake Strickland-Bennett also did the team proud competing in the 400H, 1500m, 110H and TJ.
In the ladies events, Emma Haley won the 800m by 15s to clock 2.14.2 in a very independent run with B string Anabel Pozniak coming 2nd overall (2.26.5). Tara Kafke also had a good season opener with a win in the 400m in 56.9 and 2nd in the 200m in 25.0. Faith Brew in the B string 400m ran a pb of 59.4s. Debutant to the Senior team was Rachel Burton who has just moved up into the U17s, she won the B string 3k in a 19s pb (11.10.1) and came 2nd in A string steeple chase (8.16.6). Luisa Chantler-Edmond completed all throws and amassed a huge 13 points for the team.
Overall a fantastic team effort and a good result considering the gaps in the team.
