Radley enjoyed a fantastic turnout for the 2019 Oxfordshire Cross-Country Championships in early January which as usual were combined with the third race in the Oxon XC League series. Horspath was accommodatingly muddy, but the rain held off as the Radley tent and flag were amongst the first to go up, a good omen for the day's races. In the Boys events, purple vests dominated the podium places with a healthy cohort of participants throughout the finishing order. The girls races saw some fabulous individual performances with every athlete giving their all on a fairly narrow and gently hilly course meaning tactics and pace were especially important.
In the first race of the day, the boys and girls mixed U9s, the imposing figure of Cecilia led from the start and she delivered the first Radley win of the day as she has done so impressively in all the Oxon XC league races this season. Isaac also won the U9 boys race followed in by Sam and Rose to get the club off to a great start. In the U11 girls, Cecilia was 3rd with Evie, Amelia and Iris also running well. Mia and Roxanne crossed the line within 2 seconds of each other in the U13s with Matilda next in for Radley, and both Poppy and Hermione had positive performances in the U15 race. Emma Heupfl kept it in the family winning the V2 Senior Ladies race.
The U11 boys turned the finishing line into a wave of purple and gold with Ralph, Rory and Jonas all in the top 5 and George also achieving a top 10 finish.
There were also 4 Radley finishers in the top 10 at U13 with Quinn half a minute clear of the second placed athlete, capping a dominant season for him so far, first in all the Oxon XC races and featuring highly in the Chiltern league medals as well. Team-mates Cameron, Freddie, Caspar and Fred joined him in the top flight with Thomas and Harley just behind. The trio of Will, Johnny and Rowan took no prisoners in the U15 race ably supported by Ethan and Roan amongst others.
Both Radley U13 and U15 boys teams comfortably won their age categories demonstrating the club's depth and talent across the junior section. Many thanks to coaches Mel, Wendy and Mick for all their time and effort so far this season.
