Congratulations To All Our English Schools Athletes

Radley has a great group of really talented athletes heading for the ESAA championships in Manchester on 9-11 July.

Of the seventeen Oxon athletes, six are from Radley:

Adam Chesterman - U20 discus

Rowan Miell-Ingram - U20 3000m

Esther Davies - U20 pole vault

Amber Jeacock-West - U20 discus

Erin Waters - U20 javelin

Thom Denning - U17 800m

Well done on your selections and its great to see that Radley athletes account for one-third of the entire team.

Back To Competition

There were plenty of highlights at the Radley Back To Competition event on Saturday, an opportunity for the club to come together after the long lay-off when even the weather was on its best behaviour.

Among the talent and effort on display, the remarkable achievement of eleven year old Divine is a wonderful example of progress at the club. In running 12.4 seconds in his first ever 100m, * from a standing start *, Divine has been catapulted to the top of the UK ranking list.

Rowan Again

Further congratulations to Rowan Miell-Ingram who has added the ESAA 1500m qualifying standard to his impressive season.

Rowan ran 3:56.00 at the BMC PB Classic in Milton Keynes on Saturday; testament to his hard-work, determination and the support from his coaches.

Well done from everyone at Radley.

Well Done To Rowan!

Congratulations to Rowan Miell-Ingram who has achieved the English Schools' Qualifying Standard in the 3000m.

Rowan, who has just moved into the U20 age group, raced in Milton Keynes on 22 May 2021 (pictured here) and ran a superb time of 8.28.73 to surpass the standard set by ESAA.  This was a pb for Rowan to had run a similar time on the road earlier in the year, but consolidated and improved that performance on the track. 8:28 is better than the listed ESAA National Standard set at 8.33. Fantastic running Rowan!

Qualifying Distance for ESAA for Erin

Huge congratulations to Erin Waters who is our first English Schools qualifier this year!

Erin threw a new PB of 38.62 metres in the javelin at Nuneaton at the weekend to exceed the qualifying standard of 37 metres easily.  Her previous pb was 32.92 metres so her winter training has really paid off.

Her target remains to throw the ESAA National Standard (40 metres) and she hopes to qualify for the England National Championship later this year.

Well done Erin!

Vi Franks

It is with sadness that I advise of the death of one of the Clubs founder members Vi Franks. Vi helped friends Eileen and Charles Kear and Jill Slatter start the Club. Her children (Amanda, Jane and Chris) were athletes over the years and her late husband John (also pictured here) officiated and supported the Club also.

Vi was diagnosed with vascular dementia 9 years ago and fought hard, right up to the end!

Our condolences go out to the family at this sad time.

Julie O'Hanlon (Stone)

It is with great sadness that I report the passing of a former Radley member Julie O'Hanlon (Stone) earlier this week.

Julie was a sprinter and long jumper specialising in the latter. She was part of the quartet that still holds the Radley U15 4 x100m CR (49.1s).

Julie had battled with cancer for some time, but was still taken unexpectedly, leaving behind her husband Chris and two children Declan and Kala.  The Club sends its condolences to all her family and friends.
